LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

YMCA Camp Wapsie offers a multi-year Leadership Development Program to develop leadership potential in high school-age youth beginning for those entering 10th -12th grade. Participants are campers who pay a fee and assume additional responsibilities within the leadership program. The Leader in Training (LITs) is a three-week session and Counselor in Training (CITs) is a four-week session. They attend training sessions, assist with campers and activities, while working with counselors, staff, and directors to develop and practice their skills.

Leadership and human relation skills will be increased while developing an appreciation for the natural world around us. LIT and CITs will be expected to attend regular training sessions and show a desire to learn. They will promote group unity and participate in group activities as well as displaying good conduct and cooperation with all camp personnel. Duties will include assisting in program activities, inside and outside (Ex: outdoor cooking, fire building, arts & crafts). They will also participate in other projects such as: washing dishes, service projects and trip planning.

You must apply for the Leadership program. After applications are reviewed, Camp will send offer letters to those accepted into the program with instructions on how to register. Only awarded applicants can register.

Please see our 2024 Family Handbook for information on programming, preparation tools, and other policies before registering.
