Job Title: Leadership In Training (LIT) Director
FLSA Status: Non Exempt-Seasonal
Reports to: Summer Camp & Retreats Director
POSITION SUMMARY
With the direction of the full time directors, responsible for the programming and supervision of the LIT campers during their learning, work, recreation, and instructional sessions. Requires an effort to know and understand each camper and to be able to motivate, teach, and direct.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Designs a three week program for the LITs and provides schedule and meeting materials. It must meet the camp philosophies, aims, and objectives and also meet the guidelines that are set for the program.
2. Directs the daily instructional sessions, including planning, set up, administration, supervision, and evaluation of the session.
3. Supervises the LIT campers and assures that they are always following camp rules and policies. Integrates recreational activities with those of the entire camp and plans special recreational activities for the LITs.
4. Develops, secures materials, and carries out work projects that will benefit the entire camp and provide meaningful experiences for the LIT campers.
5. Be in attendance at the weekly 1:00 PM Sunday staff meeting and all other program team meetings.
6. Evaluates each of the LIT’s individually with a written evaluation and about a half-hour oral evaluation.
7. Completes a final program report on the effectiveness of curriculum, teaching methods, resources, staff efficiency, equipment and facilities, organizational time allotments, suggestions and problems.
8. Completes a year-end assessment of all of the LITs to assist in determining likely candidates for the CIT program.
9. Participates in all of the courses, activities, classes, training, and planning sessions during the weeks of program pre-camp and pre-camp.
10. Actively participates on a planning committee for one Special Day per summer and is required to help with other all camp activities as needed.
11. Creates and maintains a harmonious, positive working relationship with fellow staff, YMCA Camp Wapsie campers and participants.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess strong communication skills both with a small group and on an individual basis.
- Must possess the ability to provide leadership, instruction, a growth experience and a healthy safe camping environment
- Must be able to design a three-week Leadership in Training program that follows the guidelines provided.
- Must have current First Aid and CPR certifications. Lifeguard certification and tower training encouraged.
- Enjoys working and interacting with people of all types and ages, with a special emphasis on children, modeling and utilizing the important core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

The employee must meet physical demands of this position, which include mobility to travel to offsite locations, touring facilities and properties, and participating in special events sponsored by the Association.
