Group Exercise Classes
All classes are free to YMCA members. Non-members must purchase a daily guest pass, or a class punch card. All levels welcome. Just drop in to the class of your choice. For class times, please find the branch you want to visit and click on the Group Exercise Schedule.
Barre Above™ - a mix of yoga, Pilates, and ballet barre moves, done on and off barre. This is a low impact class that will create long lean muscles and improve posture, balance, and flexibility. This class includes highly effective toning and resistance exercises focusing on core, legs and butt. This class is appropriate for beginner to advanced athlete.
Beginning Yoga - is designed for, but not limited to, members who have no previous yoga experience. You will learn yoga postures and body alignment, utilizing breath to energize the body. The class concludes with total body relaxation. Members with previous yoga experience are welcome. (Only at Helen G. Nassif Y.)
BODYATTACK® - is a high-energy fitness class with moves that cater for total beginners to total addicts. We combine athletic movements like running, lunging and jumping with strength exercises such as push-ups and squats. Options will be offered for beginners, or those wanting lower impact. This class will challenge you in a good way. All levels of fitness welcome.
BODYFLOW® – bend and stretch through a series of simple yoga moves and embrace elements of Tai Chi and Pilates. Breathing control is a part of all the exercises, and instructors will always provide options for those just getting started. You will leave feeling long, strong, calm, and centered.
BODYPUMP® – A muscle conditioning, choreographed workout using barbells. Whether you are new to weight training or experienced in pumping iron, this workout will change the shape of your body! Certified instructors using highly motivating music lead classes.
BODYVIVE® - A low impact, whole body workout for EVERYONE. Designed to boost cardio fitness, functional and core strength. Ideal for all fitness levels. You’ll leave feeling thoroughly invigorated, rejuvenated and ENERGIZED, so you can take life on.
Boot Camp Challenge - A combination of strength, cardio, muscle endurance, flexibility, core, and functional movement patterns. You get everything you need to challenge your mind and challenge your body with a goal to make fitness fun!
Cardio & Sculpt - A blended combination of low-impact floor aerobics, balance, and muscle toning exercises to improve cardiovascular function, muscular strength, and range of motion. (Only at YMCA at Mercy Health Plaza.)
Cycling – An indoor biking workout for everyone! Class incorporates riding techniques of hills, flat road, and intervals, utilizing speed and resistance for one enjoyable, continuous ride. Build up your cardio and muscular endurance with no impact on your joints. Please bring water bottle and sweat towel to each class.
CXWORX® - Exercising muscles around the core, CXWORX™ provides the vital ingredient for a stronger body. All the moves in CXWORX have options, so it’s challenging but achievable for your own level of fitness. During the 30-minute workout trained instructors guide you through correct technique as you work with resistance tubes and weight plates, as well as body weight exercises like crunches, and hovers. You will also get into some hip, butt and lower back exercises.
Easy Chair Yoga - Come explore the healing benefits of yoga while using a chair as a supportive prop. Members will practice gentle flowing movements and breathing techniques, and increase flexibility and strength, and improve balance. This class is perfect for those who would love to try yoga, but prefer not to be on the floor.
Enhance ®Fitness – An hour of fun that focuses on dynamic cardiovascular exercise, strength training, balance, and flexibility. Everything older adults need to maintain health and function as they age.
Energizer - This class lo impact class improves cardio respiratory endurance and muscle strength through movement to music. And finishes with stretching to improve flexibility. The movements can be modified for all levels. (Only at YMCA at Mercy Health Plaza.)
Fit N Fun – A wonderful low impact cardio class that will work every muscle in the body. A safe, fun, uplifting workout. (Only at Stoney Point Y.)
Gentle Yoga - Ideal for anyone who is a beginner to yoga, or wants relaxed pace yoga. Gentle yoga provides a slow and gentle yoga flow while building your physical strength and flexibility. Focus is on proper breath work and body alignment. This class will enhance your vigor and energy while reducing stress and anxiety. (Only at YMCA at Mercy Health Plaza.)
Intermediate Yoga- take your yoga practice to the next level, by learning more challenging poses, asanas, or variations. Yoga experience a must! (Only at Helen G. Nassif Y.)
Kickboxing –after a cardio warm up move into introducing moves for routines to get your heart rate up. Typical routines include a series of repetitive punches, hands strikes, kicks and other self-defense moves, interspersed with cardio moves, to potent music. Works both upper and lower body, and abs. Boxing bags and kick pads will be used, please bring hand wraps. All fitness levels welcome. (Only at Helen G. Nassif Y.)
Posture Perfect - This class if full of exercise designed to produce good posture. Exercise include stretching, strengthening, and balance. (Only at YMCA at Mercy Health Plaza.)
Power Yoga - is a challenging athletic practice of yoga, where we link movement and breath, at a faster pace. This is not designed for beginner yoga participants. (Only at Helen G. Nassif Y.)
RPM® – is an indoor cycling workout where you ride to the rhythm of Powerful music. You will be lead through hills, flats, mountains, speed work and intervals. You control your own resistance and speed to build up your training level over time.
Step Combo – is a simple, athletic cardio workout using a step that will shape and tone your entire lower body and push your fat burning systems into high gear. The group atmosphere is inspiring. The music and energy is addictive.
Silver Sneakers Classic - Have fun & move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seating and/or standing support.
Silver Yoga – A class specifically designed for, but not limited to, “silver’ older adults. This class will improve flexibility, range of motion and muscular strength. Silver yoga is similar to an introductory class of yoga and offers many modifications to traditional yoga routines. (Only at YMCA at Mercy Health Plaza.)
Step – is a simple, athletic workout that will shape and tone your entire lower body and push your fat burning systems into high gear. The group atmosphere is inspiring. Great for cardiovascular endurance and muscle strengthening.
Strong Bones – Strength Training for Osteoporosis. A strength training class designed for those at risk for osteopenia/osteoporosis. It includes full body exercises that encourage bone health while focusing on proper from. Tabata Drills- This is the workout fitness experts have been raving about. Tabata features 20 second intervals of extreme exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated eight times. These bursts of intense work will torch calories and strengthen your entire body. (Only at YMCA at Mercy Health Plaza.)
TABATA - high intensity interval training (HIIT) done in interval cycles. Doing one exercise for a short burst, followed by rest. There may be 10-20 exercises done at short bursts. Exercises could include lunges, jumping, burpees, weights, push-ups, weighted squats. All exercises have modifications for all levels. A great challenge against yourself to see if you can do more exercises in the cycles of work.
Tai Chi & Qi Gong - A Chinese martial art that is most often practiced as a gentle form of exercise and mindful meditation. Exercises can be done standing or seated. Tai Chi and Qi Gong are useful for improving balance, increasing flexibility and controlling stress, and there is compelling evidence that they can strengthen the immune system, improve cardiovascular health, and increase strength and mobility.
Yoga – This class teaches the basic yoga movements while helping to develop the mind body connection. Modifications offered to accommodate participants.
Zumba® – A fusion of Latin and International music & dance themes that create dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! It’s an exhilarating, effective, dance fitness party. Recommend dance sneakers or sneakers that allow for pivoting.
Zumba Kids® - Designed for kids (ages 6-13) high-energy fitness parties packed with specially choreographed, kid-friendly routines and all the music kids love. Please register for this class. (Only at Marion Y.)
