Job Title: Adventure Trips Co-Director
FLSA Status: Non Exempt-Seasonal
Reports to:  Summer Camp & Retreats Director 

POSITION SUMMARY

With direction from the full time directors, the Adventure Trip Director supervises a group of campers on the specified programs throughout the summer and provides an excellent camper/participant experience. The Adventure Trip Director must assure that all equipment, food, tents, and first-aid materials are ready for the trip. It is the responsibility of the Trip Director to develop programs, that follow the Wapsie rules and policies, keeping in mind the safety of the campers as top priority at all times.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Live with and supervise all activities of the trip group.
  2. Plan the logistics of the entire trip from transportation, equipment, food, shelter, etc. within established budget. Accurately track all money spent during trip.
  3. Program activities for the campers on the trip including lessons on living in the outdoors, cooking, nature studies, fun activities, team building and other special activities for each trip.
  4. Be sure that all programming complies with Wapsie policies, philosophies and ACA Standards.
  5. Obtain from and return to the Health Services Director a first aid kit, camper health forms, and medication with complete instructions on its use. Keep accurate medication log.
  6. Responsible for having an emergency plan of action for every place you are during the trip and assure that the Camp and Health Directors has a number where you can be reached and an itinerary before leaving.
  7. Be in attendance at weekly 1:00 PM Sunday staff meeting and team meetings that are applicable.
  8. Assures that campsites and other places used are kept clean and when leaving there are no traces left behind.
  9. Assist in the development of leadership skills in campers and help the group function as a team. See that there are a variety of activities while out of camp and assure that while on camp the appropriate staff are informed that you will be participating in activities.
  10. Participate in all of the courses, activities, classes, training, and planning sessions during the weeks of program pre-camp and pre-camp.
  11. Complete an evaluation form on campers.
  12. Complete all needed paper work and accurate records for each trip. Including, but not limited to pre-trip planning form, pre-trip checklist and end of trip reports.
  13. During a week where no trip camp is scheduled you will be assigned to another area (e.g. Wilderness Education Camp, Outdoor Leadership Program) as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be able to organize and plan for all aspects of a trip including travel plans, programming, food, equipment, and emergency care.
  2. Must possess strong leadership and communication skills.
  3. Must enjoy the outdoors and have experience in camping, leadership, rappelling, climbing, and cooking over a fire.
  4. Candidate should be 21 years old and have an appropriate license for transporting campers in camp vehicles.
  5. Must have Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguarding certification. Tower Training required.
  6. Enjoys working and interacting with people of all types and ages, with a special emphasis on children, modeling and utilizing the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
