MACR Sharks begin year-round competitive swim team Monday, April 3, as a new dual registered YMCA/USA Swim Team. Youth ages 6-21 can now compete at YMCA, USA and City Recreation League Meets.
“It’s an exciting time for swimming in our area,” said Donald Pirrie, head coach of the Sharks.
Beginning April 3, YMCA swimmers will set the pace for summer swim team at the Helen G. Nassif pool. The MACR Sharks are extending their swim season throughout the year for young swimmers wanting to focus more on their sport of choice.
“Being able to provide meets appropriate for all levels of athletes allows us to really focus in on what is most important at an age-group swimming level – technique, technique, technique. Helping swimmers build a strong technical base at a young age offers them a distinct advantage as they look ahead to high school, college swimming and beyond,” said Donald Pirrie, head coach of the Sharks.
As a member of the MACR Sharks, swimmers will have access to all YMCA facilities in Cedar Rapids and across the country. New swimmers wishing to join the team should contact Paul Brown at the Helen G. Nassif YMCA to set up a free swim evaluation. Additional information can be found at the following links:
