Summer Camp Director -
Drew joined the Y in January of 2017 as the Wapsie Summer Camp Director after 11 years of leading and participating in a wide variety of summer camps. “What draws me to camping is the possibilities it holds for personal growth within each camper and staff. When I discovered camp as a staff member, I found a place I could be accepted for who I was and who I wanted to become. I found a home that was encouraging, adventurous, prized emotional connections and spontaneity…summer camp provided the setting for me to be the best version of myself. Now as a director, my goals are to develop that environment that allows others to find the best version of themselves and give support along the way,” Drew said.
Food Service Manager -
William joined the Wapsie staff team in 2015 as our Food Service Manager and Head Cook. He oversees the purchasing, menu planning, preparation and sanitation for groups of 10 to 300 people totaling over 40,000 plates throughout the year. He has an AAS in Restaurant Management from the Kirkwood Hospitality Program, which he has used to positively impact the quality and quantity of our menu items. He has five children with his wife who has been with him for 20 years. He loves introducing teens and children to new flavors and ingredients. He consistently pursues healthy, appetizing and attractive meals.

Sam is Wapsie’s full-time, onsite Caretaker. He is responsible for the upkeep of the camp facilities and supervises the maintenance crew. Sam grew up in Maryland where he studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County before joining AmeriCorps. He has also served as our Food Services Director this past summer as well as an AmeriCorps Volunteer in the Spring of 2016.
