You know the challenges that we face in our community. More and more children face seemingly insurmountable learning gaps. Families find it difficult to spend quality time together. People are not connected to their neighbors and face time happens through a phone.
But where society falls short, the Y – and donors like you – steps in. For nearly 150 years, the Y has been serving our community. The Y understands what Linn County needs to be its best. Everything our Y does is in service of making us – as individuals and a community – better.
But keeping our communities great is a full-time job. YMCA donors, volunteers, members and partners like you make the difference. When you give to the Y, every dollar donated stays local and has a lasting impact on the people we serve.
How is the YMCA different from a gym?
The Y is a leading 501(C)(3) nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. The YMCA of the Metropolitan Cedar Rapids Area, comprised of 5 membership locations and one resident camp at Camp Wapsie, engages approximately 25,000 men, women, and children annually. Deeply rooted in the community for more than 145 years, the YMCA of the Metropolitan Cedar Rapids Area has the long-standing relationships and physical presence not just to promise, but to deliver, lasting personal and social change.
I already pay membership dues; why should I give money to the YMCA?
Membership dues cover the cost of maintaining and operating our facilities. At the Y, no child, family or adult is turned away because of inability to pay. Donated dollars are used to provide membership and program assistance for individuals and families who could not afford to participate otherwise.
Does the money raised through the Annual Campaign stay local?
Yes. When you give to the Y, your gift has a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood. All donations made to the YMCA of the Metropolitan Cedar Rapids Area are used to support our local community. Through the generous support of our 2014 Annual Campaign donors, the YMCA of the Metropolitan Cedar Rapids Area raised more than $209,000 last year to ensure that everyone in our community has access to life-changing programs and services at their local Y.
I gave to the YMCA last year; why are you asking me to contribute again this year?
Every year the YMCA of the Metropolitan Cedar Rapids Area solicits funds for the Annual Campaign. These funds make it possible to keep our promise of making YMCA programs and services available to all, regardless of ability to pay. All YMCA board members and staff are asked to support the Annual Campaign each year.
Can gifts be made over the course of the year?
Yes, the YMCA of the Metropolitan Cedar Rapids Area is pleased to handle your contribution in any manner that you wish. Please indicate on your pledge card the billing and payment arrangements that are most convenient for you. You may spread your contribution over several months or you may opt to receive an invoice or give online anytime during the year for the total amount.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, all contributions to the YMCA are tax-deductible. Your contribution must be received on or before December 31.
